I actually met Shelby last year in Frankfort, Kentucky because she was a bridesmaid in past CNP couple Annie and Andrew’s wedding (you can see their wedding here and engagement session here). So photographing Shelby and Brennen’s wedding was a little bit of a mini-reunion!

During Shelby and Brennen’s engagement session (which you can see here), it was very. very. warm! But they were champs and kept joking about how glad they were to know their wedding would be in November (not known for sweltering temps in Louisville).

I’ve been no stranger to rainy weddings this year. This is another great example that you don’t need to have perfect weather to get beautiful results. It’s all about planning and flexibility (and cute clear umbrellas from Amazon). Something Shelby and Brennen did well! Their teaching background came in handy because they came prepared.

Something I’ve noticed about the teachers I know is how giving they are to their students each day. They’re natural servants, so it makes me happy when I get to see someone with those qualities (like Shelby!) be the one that gets celebrated.

Georgetown Kentucky Fall Wedding Photography

Rainy weddings are special. It might be easy to think something along the lines of “um, no! please no!” but I think it refocuses couples on the best part of the day - that they’re getting married!

Some anxiety around the threat of rain is understandable though, which is why I cover it in my Bridal Guide. It’s basically a magazine full of inspiration from real weddings I’ve photographed and the best advice on how to help plan your wedding so that you get the best photos possible.

I joke that I’m part meteorologist. I have a nerdy/awesome app on my phone that gives moment by moment weather updates for my specific location so we can utilize even 5 minutes of break from the rain!

When I showed up to the venue, one of the first things that came up was that Kelsey knew I could get great photos with just one porch to work with and that we did!

Fun Facts

• Kelsey and Andrew met at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and both graduated last year!

• They got engaged in Hawaii (yes really, Hawaii!)

• They have an adorable dog named Blue (go Wildcats!) and I think he and our Hugo would make great friends :)

• They’re honeymooning in Barbados!

Kelsey and Andrew are the kind of people that make you feel comfortable right away. They both have a genuine, unassuming warmth. Add on the fact that they both graduated from the UK School of Pharmacy? That makes them a power couple in my book!

In the Details

There were so many beautiful, thought-out details that it’s hard to pick favorites, but I must say their unity cross was a wonderful way to honor their coming together.

Also, can we pause to appreciate Kelsey’s train? Stunning!
